Introduction

In the first project, we were required to pick any day to day object that is approximately 15cm´15cm´15cm. we were to produce orthographic drawings in top view, elevation, and section. I choose to draw a Subaru toy car that I found in my room. this project taught me how to record, interpret, organize, and describe forms in my toy car. the project also allowed me to look at 3d object and transform it into a 2d orthographic drawings.

ASSIGNMENT 01

Simple Measured Drawings

PROGRESS...

The first thing I did was to measure the toy object from all possible angles. the recorded these measurements on different pieces of paper. I then followed by taking picture of the toy Subaru car. I took 5 pictures from both side views, the front and back view, and also the top view of the car.  I printed the pictures to use as a reference.

As this was the first time I was doing orthographic drawing I found it a little difficult to stop myself from rendering the drawing as I usually did. thus few of my first attempt to draw the toy car was rendered, after a session with a tutor, I was given a better direction on how to approach the mechanical drawings of my project. fully understanding the basic principle of orthographic drawings. began to draw my toy car.

initial I found it difficult to transform the three-dimensional shapes and lines of my object into two dimensional. but as weeks passed, I was given help. and started to get the awareness of the fundamentals and basics of mechanical drawing.

Title block...

last week, I was required to add a title block to my drawing, and this was the first time doing so. in the process of creating my title block, I was required to improve my handwriting, thus I looked up how to write like an architect. and started to practice in order to create my title block.

REFLECTION...

I found this project interesting as I never really dive deeper into mechanical drawings. but in the process of this project, I learn a lot. from being unable to draw a three-dimensional object into a two-dimensional mechanical drawing. toward the end of this project, I was better able to grasp the fundamentals and basics of these drawing techniques.

I did have trouble trying to get the actual measurement onto the page because I did not what scale to use initially.  I ended up using 1:1.

I learned how to properly include a title block which is something I have never done. this also includes me learning the architectural font required.
